Defining Health Equity - From the People On the Frontlines
Health Equity is a complicated and huge problem for all of us, not just the people suffering from poor health as a result of many issues that may be out of their control - where they live, genetic history, or cultural differences that make it difficult to navigate our healthcare system. This Podcast series will explain what Health Equity (or Health IN-Equity) is all about by using words, examples, and stories so everyone can understand this complicated problem. And based on what we learned about COVID, it is in everyone's best interest to be concerned about the health of everyone in this country to prevent another healthcare pandemic.
Defining Health Equity - From the People On the Frontlines
Part 1 Defining Health Equity with Karl Colder, 32 Year Veteran of the (DEA) Drug Enforcement Adminsitration
We have been talking about the "epidemic" of drugs, its origin, and its disproportionate effect on health equity, especially in communities of color. In previous episodes with Dr. Dan Morhaim, we discussed the clinical and legislative issues - now in Part 1 of this discussion, we look at the law enforcement side of drugs with a former high-level DEA official. Is there another side to this story? You bet and get ready for Part 2 when we discuss how the worldwide drug distribution ships drugs all over the world, what "policing the police" looks like, and how Mr. Colder became the first African American to lead a police force in West Virginia.
